Review of 'So Delicious' Coconut Milk "Ice Cream" (Peanut Butter Swirl)

So Delicious -- Coconut Milk "Ice Cream" (Peanut Butter Swirl) (vegan)
Overall Rating: 4/5
Summary: This is a dessert fit for those with a very big sweet tooth. It's suuuuuper sweet and intensely chocolatey. I find that the peanut butter element takes a back seat to the chocolate. There are awesome shavings of chocolate throughout (a good portion) and the chocolate is sweet at every level. The issues I had were (1) the subtle peanut butter flavour, (2) the texture was hard and I had to let it soften for a reaaally long time, (3) and I got a chunk of something that was really salty (yuck!).

The container indicates the flavour is 'Peanut Butter Swirl' but the website reads 'Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl'. The ingredients are similar, but I would have preferred the product listed on the website, since there is no added sugar and it has fewer calories (210). Perhaps the website is outdated or our Canadian recipe is slightly different.

Anyway, I'm happy for the organic ingredients! I assume the .1g trans fats is naturally derived. This dessert does have a huge fat content, but as is the case with coconut -- it's a fatty food, but a healthy one! I wish it didn't have quite so many calories, but you know what...I'm pretty content because it does have a good 8g of fiber and 4g of protein. You never really find those numbers in frozen desserts.

I really do wish I had more of an intense peanut butter experience so that I could have rated this higher. I also wish I did NOT experience that random chunk of saltiness (ewww, it was so bad). Thankfully it was only one chunk. I didn't really get any coconut flavour, so don't expect to find that if you buy this. Last, I was really disappointed that the texture was so very hard. It wasn't icy, but it was just really stiff! I had to let it soften for a reallllly long time too! Like more than 10 minutes altogether...and it still had hard parts in the middle. I expected it to be soft and creamy like their 'Purely Decadent' line, but no such luck.

I would still recommend this ice cream, but only to those who are good with portion control and can stick to a 1/2 cup serving :P
