Review of 'Jacquot' Dark Chocolate 72%

Jacquot -- Dark Chocolate 72% (vegan)
Overall Rating: 3/5
Summary: not happy that there's no official website, since it means I can't learn more about the brand and company. The texture is very brittle and not at all soft. It is medium-sweet and you do get that dark chocolate flavour despite the high sugar content. All in all, it's just okay. Nothing really special in terms of flavour. I likely wouldn't buy this again.

Where to buy: Discount and 99 Cent Depot, Conestoga and Bovaird Plaza, buy online here

Ingredients: cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, low fat cocoa powder, emulsifier: lecithin, vanilla flavouring.

So, for 240 calories, there's a high fat content that derives from the chocolate itself. It is plant based fat, so a healthier alternative to animal fats. Also important to note is that high in fat does not necessarily mean unhealthy fat and moderation is the key here. whole lotta fat! I'm not sure where that's coming from, but it isn't worth my time.

Brand:
  • Founded in 1920
  • Embraces French chocolate tradition
  • 72% combination of strong African and South American cocoas
  • Imported by Dollarama
  • Product of France

  • I've been told they are owned by Cemoi https://www.cemoi.fr/en/

  1. The fat comes from the actual chocolate. Cocoa mass or coca butter is pure fat. And it's not because it's fat that it's unhealthy.

  2. Thanks for the feedback, Al. So, knowing that the fat is from the actual chocolate and is plant-based means it's healthier than other forms of fat...and, as you said, not necessarily unhealthy.

I'll have to adjust the review to avoid misinforming folks.

  3. If its too brittle it might be because your accustomed to chocolate with more additives, or maybe milk chocolate.

  5. Hi Jesse, definitely not used to milk chocolate...I usually have vegan chocolates. It may be additives, true...though I also try to opt for chocolates with minimalist ingredients. Usually I find these from Bulk Barn or Fortinos.

  6. Hey, I know that you posted this a few years ago now, but I just bought a bar and decided to do my own research.

They were weirdly hard to track down, but I did track them down. They're owned by a company called CĂ©moi. This is their website:

    Have a great day :)

  8. love the smoothness, not brittle at all! I have Lindt dark chocolate, as well, and it is much sweeter in taste although the nutritional fact says otherwise. Makes me question the label... but this chocolate does not taste sweet at all...loving it!!!!!
